译后记 | Translator's note
The lines “Sharing your existence / refuting, defying against your common destiny” and “Gazing beyond cliffs, overlooking / rivers agitated, forlorn, never to return / The plains lie unseen / with dark, silent, uncharted life and death” resonated with me deeply, mirroring the reality of our times. This was why I chose to translate this song.
I spent a few days refining the translation, striving to preserve the tension and rhythm. Yet in the end, it was impossible to fully convey the urgency in the term 「存亡」 or the layered meanings of 「无告」, which evoke a sense of helpless isolation, having nowhere to turn, no one to seek aid from, and no one to share the burden with.
The band Omnipotent Youth Society is indeed intriguing, though still too toxically masculine in its perspective. In this album “The Journey Through the Forest Roads of Southwest Hebei”, the liner notes mention that “the villages at the foot of these mountains still operate under an ancient and benevolent order”. However, for women, this so-called ancient order is nothing more than lawful evil. That said, this does not completely diminish the flashes of artistic brilliance in the creations of Omnipotent Youth Society.
选择翻译《山雀》，主要是因为「她与你共存 / 违背 对抗 相同的命运」以及「山崖复远望 / 仓皇 无告 不回的河流 / 平原不可见 / 晦暗 无声 未知的存亡」两句实在引人共鸣，如同今世的写照。琢磨了很久译文用词，以求保留力度和节奏，但最后也不能完全译出「存亡」一词紧迫的张力以及「无告」所隐含的茕茕孑立、无处求告、走投无路、更与何人说之感。
万青这个乐队有些意思，可惜还是太男了：《冀西南林路行》专辑的文案讲到"山脚的村庄还运行着古老仁慈的秩序"，然而对于女性而言，所谓古老的秩序不过是守序邪恶罢了。不过，这并不能阻止艺术的灵光降临到万青的创作上。
